CHA, Peacoats & Connie Govea Stuart
February 4, 2008 12:06 PM

I know, it has been ages!  I have been busy though - lots of design projects being worked on...  I just finished one I had so much fun working on... Candice Carpenter's new site - Peacoats and Party Hats - full web design, business cards, blog, etc - take a peek around, her grand opening is March 15th but you can still check out the site and order some paper kits now.

Peacoats & Party Hats

Also, I will be at CHA with the rubber stamps I designed... so if you are going to be there please stop by and say hello - I will be at the Rubber Stamp Concept booth.  My first show ever - I am a little nervous so friendly faces are very welcome!  I will let you know all about the show when I return!

Oh and I have some great photos of things made and sent to me by the ever so darling Connie Govea Stuart (alas, no link, I am working on that though - trying to pressure her to start an etsy shop - wouldn't that be wonderful;?!)  that I have been meaning to share - I have more to share then this - but for now here are some peeks of a package she sent me a while back.

Even the box she sends it in is beautiful!

and wait until you see some of the other goodies I have received from her - I promise to share more photos of the her creations when I get back from CHA!

December 26, 2007 10:32 AM

I hope everyone had a merry holiday!
It was the first Christmas in our first house and it was perfect.
Truly perfect.

In shop news... I thought that Paper Relics new logo needed a little something...
It has been bugging me since the new look was released...
so I have added a small ink bottle tipped over with ink spilling out.
Behold!  The (finally) finished logo:

Wonderful Presents from Little Melfie
December 9, 2007 04:15 PM

I am not sure if you know this, but I am lucky enough to live very close to Melissa of Little Melfie's.  She is such a great friend, I love to spend time with her.... but she is a full time mom of 2 (great) kids, works full time, and runs Little Melfred's Studio - so I do not get to see her as much as I would like.  But... I was lucky enough to have breakfast and coconut cake (our ritual) with her - and even got her to come to borders and have coffee as we sat, looked though all our favorite UK magazines while we chatted.  It was wonderful fun.  We also exchanged Christmas presents!  How fun to have such a talented friend...  so what do you want to see first?  What I made for her or the lovely goodies she made me?  Well, we will save the best for last!  (as always, for all photos, click on them to see a larger version).

Here is what she got from me:  My first attempt at making a cone that I filled with treats and a petite pennant from my good friend Leslie over at The Paper Princess

I also made her a Birthday book out of a Moleskin Cashier notebook (click here to see more photos of the book):

But, now for the good stuff... she always does such an incredible job with presentation.  She brought white flowers in a pretty vase and filled this great tin bucket with goodies for me.  A Bethany Lowe Santa with a Season's Greeting banner was sticking out of the top!  Wrapped in tissue inside were all sorts of goodies - she knew I had wanted a holiday H and M for the house, but she also made a T for the pup (Tuala) and she also made us each one of her ADORABLE sock ornaments - again, even one for Tuala- look at the vintage wallpaper bone on it!

Pup loved hers as you can see below!  I love everything!!  It was such a good time!  I miss you already Melissa!!

Inspire Co & Small Meadow Press Meet Up
November 19, 2007 12:18 PM

I got an email from Amy Powers late Saturday afternoon informing me that Lesley Austin of Small Meadow Press was staying with her this weekend and doing a local show and would I like to come over for dinner?  Lesley and I had tried to meet up once before and it did not happen, so I was thrilled to get another chance ... even if Amy lives about 1 1/2 hours away and it was already around 5pm!  So, I said yes and jumped in my car and headed out to her house.  I am SO glad I did.  Lesley is the most wonderful, gentle natured person I have ever meet.   And of course, if you know Amy, you know how great she is as well!

We went to Whole Foods for dinner at their Cheese bar (best grilled cheese and salad I have had in a while!) and then bought some tarlettes and tiny cupcakes to bring back to Amy's to have with tea.  We talked the night away and before I knew it, the clock said it was 11:30 and I had to head home.  I had a wonderful time - and look forward to meeting up with them again in the future.  I honestly felt like I have know the 2 of them for ages - I have known Amy for awhile, I see see her at local get together and stuff, but I was really happy to get a chance to know her better.  I can't wait for her to invite me over again (hint hint!).

This is us at the cheese bar

Joel was our chef and quite entertaining!

Amy's house was such a delight to behold!  She has this great old hand crafted doll house and little Jacky that lives there.

Hmmm... tea and tartlettes!

Paris Flea Market & Creative Friends
April 28, 2007 07:56 PM

I had a good time today visiting with Amy of Inspire Co and Stephanie of Doojies at The Cottage's Paris Flea Market today in Leesburg, VA.

I was supposed to go with Melissa of Little Melfie's on Friday but we were unable to go last minute, so I dragged Mike with me today!  Melissa- we will plan something as soon as I get back from LA!

Catch Up Post
April 23, 2007 08:45 PM

Well it has been quite some time since I posted hasn't?  Artfest was fun, it was a whirlwind and I was so happy to meet Stacie in person (she was so wonderful, picked me up at the airport, let me stay at her house, was my roommate) and to meet the sweet, sweet Celine who I just adored right away.  The three of us got along very, very well.  We stayed in a house with some extremely creative spirits - all whom were so nice to an Artfest Newbie! I meet some people in person who it was so wonderful to get to talk to...(I just wish there had been more time to talk to them) Kari, Cassondra, Tiffini, Pam, Amy, Catherine who gave me a WONDERFUL present - one of her pieces that she knew I would love (and she was right) - I will take a photo and post it soon, Heather, Kim... who found me in a little shop the last night CRYING because I was homesick (thank you for being so great)... and so many more people I can not even begin to name them all!  My classes were fun, I had Jenna Colby, Anhata and Pam.  I must admit that I was not so convinced I would return next year though.  I may try something else to see how I like it, but I was happy for the experience.  You can see some of my photos by clicking HERE. (oh, and thanks to flickr toys for the mosaic above).

Other news... I was asked to be a part of another girl at play.  Have you seen this site?  It is wonderfully inspiring, and if you are so indulged, you may read my interview by clicking HERE.

I am off to LA next week - and I plan on meeting up with my good friend Leslie who I have not seen for quite sometime so I am really looking forward to it!

Artfest Here I Come... and Other Goodness
March 25, 2007 11:48 AM

Well - I am off to my first ever Artfest the day after tomorrow.  Stacie is so wonderful is picking me up at the airport, letting me stay at her house, and then driving me up to artfest and rooming with me.  She is going to be sick of me by the weeks end!  Stacie and I have yet to meet in person - we have chatted on the phone a bunch of times and always on IM... so I am really looking forward to actually see her!  I am very nervous about Artfest- but I know it will be wonderful!  The Greetings from Artfest postcard (above) I made for the goodie bags being handed out there.

I had to have unexpected dental surgery Thursday so today is the first day I feel semi-normal.  I had a sideways impacted EXTRA tooth - so I have wisdom teeth, then there was this tooth under my gums all the way back there and it was very hard to get it out... so I have been miserable but am doing better.  Better to get it over with than to have issues while I am away.  (but I DID have to cancel plans with Little Melfie and Doojies, who I was so looking forward to seeing again!)

While I was out of it and miserable recovering and on pain meds, a package arrived that made me forget the pain for a bit.... some sweet sweet girls, including the artist got together and sent me a Tartx original lamp that i just ADORE as a house warming present.  How awesome is that?!  I love these girls more than you can imagine - they are always there for me though the good, bad and silly.  Jes, Dawn, Leslie, Kath and Giao... and Tiffini who made the amazing piece and joined in on celebrating my new home (oh and I LOVE that eye pillow, it smells divine!) ! THANK YOU!  Not just for this, but for all you do!  Once we settle on a place for the lamp I will take photos - for now here is a photo from the artist herself:

I also got a package from a Swap Stacie held a while back - the ever so faithful US postoffice held it up for ages since it should have been here last month, but I was so tickled to receive it I forgave them.  Everything was wonderful - Liz is amazing!  LOOK at the goodies she sent and made me!  You must see her site (click here) - she is amazing and so glad that I got to know her!

Jes of Junque Revival also sent me my birthday presents early.  Yes.  Her birthday was in February and her presents from me are still upstairs in my studio waitng to be wrapped... and my birthday is over 3 weeks away and I have presents from her already.  (Don't you wish you were my friend??)  Anyway - LOOK at this necklace she made me.  It is AMAZING!  From her Revived Relics Collection!

Other goodies recently - I was featured in Awesomely Indie - a new blog that is really fun!!  Go see it here
and Andrea, the sweetheart, made me a leg that i was swooning over in her flick photo stream.

Oh and look at these wonderful shelves I purchased form Pottery Barn - I love them!

Well - on that note - have a great great week - if you will be at Artfest, please, please find me so we can meet in person... if you are not, I will tell you all about it when I get back!

Cheers

Moving In!
March 6, 2007 08:23 PM

Hi everyone!

I thought I should check in and let everyone know where I have been.... I have been moving from an apartment to our first house and boy is it a lot of work!  We are mostly unpacked except for my studio and Mike's office... which we worked on today.  We have been putting together IKEA furniture like pros!  The pup is a little confused going from one floor to 3 floors - and she gets a bit stressed at times not being able to find us.  We still need a new couch to furnish the living room (we have a family room that our old couch is in) and a few other things.  But, I thought I would share some Studio photos with you - be sure to click on them to view them on flickr to see them since I added lots of notes - including one that shows an upcoming contest prize... anyway... off to unpack more!

Time Flies!
January 20, 2007 04:53 PM

I have NO idea how time gets away from me so quickly.  I mean - my last post was almost a month ago.  Since I have been so busy, I thought I would share with you some of the things I have been working on.

First, I was honored to be the "in the studio of..." artist for Portals Zine. I really love Portals (and not just because I am in it this issue) - they really always have great articles and photos.  Check them out here.

I also did some projects for an upcoming book - I was so nervous about it, but I saw the cover on Amazon, and there on the bottom right hand corner is one of my things!  How exciting!  Check it out here.

I had to welcome a friend into the blog world by helping her out with her banner.  It was easy peasy since she takes such wonderful photos.  Please go say Hello and welcome to Lilia of Flea Market Studio!

New items in the shop - and a Valentine's Day special which you can cash in on by clicking here.

I also just made this for a swap - what do you think?  I am a bit nervous about sending it...

Lastly, I had to cancel a anticipated trip to visit my good friend Leslie...(which I am going to try to reschedule so I can still see her) but the reason is a big one.  We bought a house!!  Our first house.  (with a BIGGER craft room!!) We are so excited... we close on Feb 27th, which is when I would have been away.  Any one have any advice for first time home owners??

Tree Trimming & Eggnog Swilling
December 2, 2006 08:26 PM

Today we went to get our tree.  It was spur of the moment and we happened to be in my car, so we were not sure how that was going to work.  Since we have so little available space in our place (we outgrew it when we moved in!  We will be looking for a place to buy in the new year thankfully), we needed a smallish tree.  We found a great little fir a little over 6 feet.  They strung it on my car no problem and we were off.  Half way home we stopped to make sure it was still secure and I snapped a photo.  But seriously, it looks like either the tree is tiny or that I own the largest mini cooper ever.

We had a nice time decorating the tree.  I flicked the fireplace on (yes, I typed that bitterly, I hate not having a real fireplace - the gas one with fake logs just does not do it for me) and Mike mixed us some eggnog drinks (spiked, of course).  I left mine, nearly empty, unattended for a minute and came back to this site:

I did not know if I should yell or laugh!  She is sleeping it off now, while I type this.

I always wanted to have one of those matching Christmas trees out of a Neiman Marcus catalog, you know what I mean?  But I get so sentimental about ornaments that I have a mishmash of un-matching ones hanging from the branches.  It looks sweet, and Mike is sweeter, listening to my stories for each one "My mom made me this one when we moved when I was 2" or "I made these when I was little" (see above the talented works of Hope Wallace as a child!  Hopefully a very young child, they are so awful!).  He is so patient and lets me put on Holiday music, this year supplied by the talented Lisa Cook in her Winter Twilight CD that she made.

I think I am finally in the holiday spirit.  Good thing, my office Holiday party is Friday!

Other news - I created a banner for ULLABENULLA.  I just purchased on of her kits (it arrived today actually and it looks so great - I found her through Pam Garrison's Blog I think) and we got to chatting and we came up with this wonderful banner made from one of her own works.  An etsy banner will follow shortly.

Oh, and some shop news (don't forget you can always see what's new on the what's new page):

New Clipart CDs in the New Year - I am planning a photo cd made from photos from here and another cd of French fashion made from these goodies I found.

I finally have a newsletter for people to sign up for here.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful December so far... let me know where I can see your trees!

P.S. Looking for a good book - check out The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield , I loved it - it was very good.

October 29, 2006 12:09 PM

Dawn blogged about the trip here - Jes blogged about here - and I wrote a bit about the flea markets here - so now I leave you with a photo story of the rest...and that it was a WONDERFUL trip!

Mood Swing Meet Up
October 9, 2006 08:09 PM

This weekend I went to an Art Show in Alexandria, Virginia to meet Kristen of Mood Swing Studio.  Let me just say that her WONDERFUL creations are even MORE WONDERFUL in person!  And, It was great  meeting yet another wonderful blog friend (see here and here for past posts about blog friend meet ups).  Kristen and I hit it off right away - and she had her sweet friend Cathy with her who was great too!  I had such a hard time deciding what to buy though, but ended up with some goodies for myself (of course) and a present for a friend.  Even her booth was great, the way she uses old frames and windows to display everything!  Clever girl, that Kristen!  I already want to make a trip down to North Carolina to visit her!  She really was wonderful.  It was a gloomy day, but I managed a few photos...

I spent the rest of the weekend crafting and finishing up a project or two...

How was your weekend?

Tim Holtz & Chris Wood Inspire
September 17, 2006 09:27 AM

The past few days have been very busy.  The day job has been crazy, but I was also lucky enough to squeeze in some really wonderful things.  Last Thursday night I attended a retirement party for someone at the office, it was held at the Visionary Museum in Baltimore!  I had been really wanting to go there for months, so this was a great opportunity to see it.  It really is a neat place, although you can not take photos inside, so all I have to show you is this photo of the shinny pretty things displayed on a tree outside (as usual, click the photo to see it bigger at flickr).

On Saturday, I had the pleasure to take my first art class.  It was at The Queen's Ink in Savage Maryland (if you are close I HIGHLY recommend visiting this wonderful shop!), taught by Tim Holtz

I took a class called Charmed Possessions and it was wonderful.  Tim was wonderful - he was so nice and down to earth!  I brought him some goodies from my shop and he was thrilled and even plugged my Petite Bundles during the class!  It was really nice meeting a well know artist for the first time and having them be so great (I would love to hear about who you have meet that really was wonderful!)

Not to mention that The Queen's Ink carries Paper Relics' products - and even though it is in a lot of shops across the country, this is the first local shop for me and actually SEEING it all displayed was amazing!

After class I had to rush out to meet Mike for a date - he was taking me on a date to see The Wood Brothers perform (one of which, Chris, is the Wood in Medeski, Martin & Wood).  They were really great live, we had such a wonderful time.  Chris Wood does AMAZING things with his bass - he truly is incredible.  Even though my day was a whirlwind, it was so wonderful - filled with such inspiring artists and fun!

P.S. Don't forget to scroll down to hear about Paper Relics' new holiday cards!
